MadWorld

It’s rare to see a Rated M game on the Wii, but when you do there usually is some hype to it, and Mad World is no exception. Following the success of No More Heroes, Mad World brings more blood, guts, foul language, and everything else you could ever want from a Wii title.  Mad World brings back the old Beat-em-up style of gameplay, kind of reminiscent to the hit classic Smash TV and pits you against other combatants to compete in a tournament for high television ratings.

Graphics.  It’s hard to make a really impressive game on the Wii but Mad World does the trick with its black and white shading. Even though the game is in black and white you still get to see every gruesome gory detail of blood in red that you could ever hope to see. To be frank it does a much better job than Manhunt did , which is an old Playstation 2 game.  Backgrounds are nice some of them are detailed well but due to the amount of QuickTime Events and gore flying everywhere its hard to pay any attention to them.

Control.  With the ergonomic design of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck its no surprise that the controls are tight and solid.   The A button attacks, B swings a chainsaw and shaking your remote does strong attacks and is also used for the many QuickTime Events that the game has to offer. It never felt so easy to lock on with the C button and dodge with a simple shake of the Nunchuck. Both the buttons and the motion controls do justice towards the excellent controller scheme.   Spinning an enemy around and around as you wave you hands in the air never felt so good!

Gameplay.  Mad World plays out like any simple 3rd person action game would. In Mad World you increase your score until you have enough to face the boss of the level. There are ways of increasing your score such as kill combos, the mini games that open up (these are available for 2 player mode after they are unlocked) and of course mini bosses. The kill combos work by taking an object, putting it on an enemy then taking another object, stabbing an enemy with it, then taking them over to a conveniently placed environmental hazard. (Wow watch your score skyrocket!) If you’re not too fancy then just beat the pulp out of whatever stands in your way with your chainsaw and quick jab attacks. When you get to the boss throw a couple chainsaw strikes in and dodge a few times then its on to some fun QuickTime Events.

Sound.  What better way to beat down things to than listening to an entire compilation of rap music that seems to run rampant throughout the entire game?  Voice acting is done well except for the constant repetitive voices of random thugs. The commentators, voiced by Comedian Greg Proops and Gears of Wars alum John Dimaggio, do such a great job at narrating the action that I guarantee you with their antics you will be laughing out loud. Other than that the sound of blood splattering, chainsaws revving and other random noises sound great.

Overall. Mad World does a great job at re creating a classic style game for today’s gamers.  There is so much foul language that it make No More Heroes look tame if they went any farther it could’ve been a rated AO game. Its good to see that mindless violence is still fun. This is definitely one of the better Nintendo Wii Titles to be released by far.
